Manang Vergie's house near the church is a place where I used to hang out back then when I was still the youngest choir member. And now that I'm one of the eldest, she died.
Mark-gill told me about the news this morning. I was really shocked. I never knew Ate Vergie was sick because I saw her few days ago, healthy in front of her house. I heard she refused to go to a doctor. They saw her cold body early this morning lying in her bed.
Ate Vergie was really nice. She never cuts her hair. She's like the Philippine version of Rapunzel. She's thin, small and dark skinned like me. I guess being all alone in her small wooden house made her very lonely. Manong Teng-teng, the oldest church sakristan lives at the back of her house, but I guess things have never been the same since Ate Marie (former church bassist) and Ate Alma (former choir member) who happens to be her nieces, left her alone to work somewhere far. And I felt so sad when I heard from one of her relatives that they won't come to attend even one night of her burial. Are they busy or what?
Goodbye Ate Vergie, we will miss you.
Enough with the bad news
The kids and I had a little joyride to Palagao today, and here are some pictures at the bridge.
There's a fisherman in that rowboat, can you see him?
